Clearing your clutter
Clutter affects the flow of chi, the flow of life, reduces the energetic level
of a space, creates blockages, has no real value in our life.
What is clutter?
Physical clutter (“Use it, love it or get rid of it”)
Habits, old shoes, broken objects, not repaired objects, not wanted presents,
objects and things that can be used one day…, documents, personal
letters or cards of Christmas, recipes, magazine and journal piles, not
achieved projects, pots with dead plant, expired coupons, old cosmetics,
expired vitamins or medicaments, too much stuff for the middle of the
space…
Mental clutter
Bad time planning, list of too many things to accomplish, postponed
decisions, guilt thoughts, blame, judgements, wrong believe systems, patterns
that do not serve anymore
Emotional clutter
Not healed loss, not confronted fears, unexpressed anger, unrealised dreams,
regrets, not digested past experiences
Clutter is not connected to a certain object,
what is clutter for one person is not clutter for another.
An object you like may not be at the right place.
What you like, what you need or what you use
Effects of the clutter
Being unorganised, limitations( burden of possessions), chaos,
depression, too much burden, emotional and physical charge, more things
to loose, more to bump into, more to feel guilty about to neglect, are
possessing the things or are they possessing you, difficulties to breath,
picture of the past and the future
● Clutter in the basement = unconscious
● Clutter in height = worry, anxiety
● Under the bed = can effect the sleep
● Clutter costs time and money
Loosing time to look for lost objects or cleaning the piles of objects and not
used, loosing money buying things twice, storage costs in energy and money,
loss of energy to create space for work in the middle of the clutter,
psychological put down that creates negative thoughts…
Why do we collect and keep things cluttered?
The
clutter is associated with your identity. To get rid of clutter is like
getting rid of some part of you. We are born without possession and we
will die without possession…
People keep things :
out of fear of the future, sentimental reasons, by habit, pattern of behaviour,
as security to as a buffer to protect their life, for social status, sometime
in future they will use it, represents unrealised dreams, missing of support,
they feel very responsible for their things, influence of publicity, one
buys things that one does not need just out of sentiment for appearance…
People do not clean their clutter :
they have it for too long, they have inherited , it had cost ones a lot
of money, “it is not made anymore like this”, they are too
busy, it is too much work to do it, it might serve them one day,, somebody
gave it to them and they could get this persons visit one day, they haven´t
look at it or worn it so far, there is nothing bad in this, they can regret
it later, it could become fashionable…
Practical ideas to get rid of clutter
● Give back everything you borrowed, get rid of double things, think twice
before you buy something, in doubt do not buy, allow yourselves one drawer
of clutter only
● Ask yourself:
Do I really need this?
Does this reflect still who I am?
Why do I hold on to this object?
● Weight the benefits
of liberty of not having an object or the regret of
getting rid of one.
● Take the remedy Crab apple from Dr. Bach to help you.
● Be gentle to yourself.
If
you encourage a person to get rid of their stuff, encourage them and support
them and still let them confront their clutter in their own time, do not
judge and do not push, treat them with respect, proceed slowly, to clear
clutter too fast can cause emotional breakdown.
